You know there are lot of places on this planet where the folks don’t have access to a lot of animal based protein. OK eggs, dairy and fish… but still when you get right down to it we here in the 1st world should consider ourselves blessed to be to able to hammer down a pile of chili cheese sliders pretty much 24/7. But this truly is a mixed blessing. I won’t open up that kettle of pork by products but we all know that North America (emphasis on the good ol’ U S of A) and yes now Europe, particularly the UK, has a huge and growing (sorry) problem with obesity and everything that comes with it; namely type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, depression and of course that old Hawaiian nemesis, Laka-nookie. Seriously, our diet is literally killing us. But we all know that.
Look, many other cultures just don’t have this problem. Why? Because we have to too much, we have multinational corporations whose CEOs would force feed their grandmothers 64 ounce double big gulps if they could increase profits by .5287 percent and we are trying to fill our spiritual emptiness by stuffing ourselves with KFC Double Down "all chicken" sandwiches (2 breaded and fried original recipe boneless chicken breast "buns" encasing slabs of fried bacon, 2 slices of pepper jack/monterey jack cheese and of course it's all glued together with the Colonel’s special secret sauce).
So what to do? Well we are going to look at exactly how and what these skinnier and one could argue happier cultures eat.
